… is going to be the death of my bank account. I first started using Kickstarter last summer when I back the Tatooine watches. I didn’t really think much about the site again until recently backing another star wars project and since then I’ve been hooked. I’ve already backed a few others and have dozens more starred for future reference. The good thing, I suppose, is that I’m getting a lot of gifts purchased through the site, but it’s only March! I’ve got almost everything set until Christmas! However, it sorta fits with a goal I’d had last year but hadn’t been able to fulfill – to buy local/independent/handcrafted type things. Of course, none of these kickstarter projects are local and many of them aren’t exactly ‘hand crafted’ but at least it has that ‘helping small business/craftsmen’ feel to it.
And it’s kinda fun. :P I see the opportunity to learn about independant music and film artsists as well although I haven’t really had time to explore those so much. And the musicians I have tried to check out; many of them didn’t have any of their music available to listen to and so I definitely wasn’t going to back them.
Anyway, it’s a great site; I wish some actual local people would use it a bit more. Or maybe it’s better (for my wallet) if they don’t. ;)
