Tap tap… is this thing on?
I keep saying that I’m going to post here more… and then it’s like a month or something before I post here again. Can you say goal-setting FAIL? I either don’t have anything to say or when I do, I don’t seem to have the time to post anything. Sigh.
On a side note, is it weird that I’m being all geeky and writing a ‘blog post’, but I’m writing with these things called ‘pen’ and ‘paper’ for my ‘first draft’?
Okay, back on track. So I really haven’t posted anything here since I finished NaNoWriMo (that whole ‘year in review’ thing doesn’t really count). Despite that, I still don’t really have anything to say. Is my life that boring or am I just not that creative in thinking of anything worth writing?
In the world of cross stitch, I’ve finished Mirabilia’s Fairy Idyll, which I’ve been working on, on and off, since 2003. I realy need to get working on some other WIPs I have on the go, but I keep starting new projects. At least I’ve chosen smaller projects, like First Stitches. Visit those links for more information, if you’re into cross stitch type stuff.
Also, I’m published again! Six SENTENCES this time, instead of six words. In honour of Valentine’s Day: The Love Book from 6Sentences. Funny that I managed to get published in a ‘love’ themed book and especially considering the specific topic of my particular ‘six’. Check it out at Create Space.
2009: My Year in Review
January…
In January I officially became “Aurora Lee”.
Well, on the internet anyway. I got the nickname “Aurora” last year from a fellow RPer – well, was given to my character by her character, but it sort of stuck with me. Not to mention that it is a much nicer name than my previous online handle, though I still use that old handle on fan boards. When I looked at using the name in a more official capacity, I found that “Aurora” is more popular than I thought so I added the Lee. In January 2009 I officially adopted Aurora Lee as my ‘personal’ handle and purchased aurora-lee.ca! With the new domain name came a new host (www.netfirms.ca) and, well, a ‘host’ of new tools to play with. WordPress, Joomla and more. I integrated many of these tools on my new site to experiment and learn new things. It’s still a work in progress and when I get some time I’ll be streamlining it. (more…)
Catch up (NOT ketchup!) time… *thud*
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. It’s been a busy few months and I’m still trying to catch up! Since my last post on October 18th, I’ve travelled to Dallas, planned and written a (almost complete) novel, spent a weekend in the city to see George Canyon, started volunteering, finished my first web design course, and now trying to catch up on everything I neglected during all that.
Before my last post, I started volunteering with Junior Achievement’s Company Program. This 18 week program works with high school students to show them how to run a business from product brainstorming to company incorporation to finally disolving hte company. My group – Valley Views – has created very nice 2010 calendars with photographic ciews of the valley. The calendar sells for $10. COntact me if you’re interest in purchase one
In the new year, they may shift to also making dog treats
Cross stitching has pretty much been put on hold until this weekend, too much other stuff has been going on! I’m still working on Fairy Idyll, which I hope to finish before working on another new project or WIP. My 365 Project had been put to the side during most of November as well, but is now back! I started where I left off, so we’ll still get 365 photos, it will just take longer than a year to do. (more…)
Writing, travelling, cross stitching…
So… what’s going on with me lately? Too much!!
First, let’s talk about the fun stuff. I’ve posted a new progress photo for my Fairy Idyll cross stitch piece. That will probably be last progress of any sort until December
I’m still taking part in my (free) Social Media and Open Education course – which this week was really interesting and dealt with Digital Storytelling, check out my last post for more information on that – and my Web design course (the homework for which I should be doing right now instead of writing this!). I was suppose to do a Photography course through the Photographic Society of America, but the textbook I’ve only been able to find on Ebay. I have just purchased it, though I’m still deciding if I just want to work through the book on my own, or take the course. I’ll probably take a look at the book in November or December (more than likely December!) and figure it out. (worried about the portrait unit – don’t really like taking pics of other people
so I want to see what the exercises are before I commit)
On Tuesday I start volunteering weekly with Junior Achievement’s Company Program. I was a volunteer advisor two years ago, but skipped last year, as I was too busy. Somehow I decided that this year I was LESS busy? Not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to that! lol Anyway, it’s a great program! Hopefully we have a great year! (more…)
Weekly Round up on Twilight Day
So I agreed/offered/whatever to go into the city (an 8 hour bus ride round trip) to get two of my American friends a Canada exclusive version of Twilight. Note that I have never watched, nor am I interested in, Twilight. I’m such a nice person. lol But it was nice to have a day out by my self. A nice quiet bus ride and a QUICK walk around town.
I got there and had about 50 minutes to get to HMV, buy stuff and get (more…)
Creative Update: 7 March
While searching through all those writing links, I came across a few challenge sites and this morning wrote a couple of short pieces for them. “Tradgedy” a Drabble, and “Listen Up Because This is Important”… not a drabble, but still pretty short. I submitted stuff to a couple of other sites, but nothing new.
Both of these are actually open to view by guests for now. When I reply to these sites’ challenges next week these ones will get hidden back for registered users only.
I’ve also started participating in “6 words” and “one sentence” sites, but those are so short I’ll just add stuff when I have a bunch to post.
Finally, I just posted a video of pics I took while I was in Grand Centre, Alberta last summer. A proper account of my trip will come… some day. lol
Grand Centre Video
Enjoy!
Report from the Web
lol I couldn’t really think of a better title… my apologies.
I just thought I’d write about a few things I’ve come across online this week. (more…)
Creative Update 20 February
Just a quick not to say… I got my muse on!!
After quite a long vacation the muses have returned and I’ve posted a fic The Coffee Mug in the Creative Corner. Got some other projects in the works as well.
I thought it would never come back! So I’m pretty stoked.
Creative Updates 15 February 2009
Hello all!
I’ve just updated the Creative Corner section of my site. I’ve added some helpful (to me anyway) writers links as well as a poem/inspriation/advice type thing that I found online and wanted to share. The muse has been absent lately, maybe these will kick start it? And, you know, find more hours in the day to actually be able to write.
I’ve also added a couple of original pieces that I wrote last year:
- Hero (A Soldier’s Return)
- Knots
You’ll have to register to view them. I’m greedy and don’t share with everyone.
