Tap tap… is this thing on?

I keep saying that I’m going to post here more… and then it’s like a month or something before I post here again. Can you say goal-setting FAIL? I either don’t have anything to say or when I do, I don’t seem to have the time to post anything. Sigh.

On a side note, is it weird that I’m being all geeky and writing a ‘blog post’, but I’m writing with these things called ‘pen’ and ‘paper’ for my ‘first draft’?

Okay, back on track. So I really haven’t posted anything here since I finished NaNoWriMo (that whole ‘year in review’ thing doesn’t really count). Despite that, I still don’t really have anything to say. Is my life that boring or am I just not that creative in thinking of anything worth writing?

Fairy Idyll

Fairy Idyll

In the world of cross stitch, I’ve finished Mirabilia’s Fairy Idyll, which I’ve been working on, on and off, since 2003. I realy need to get working on some other WIPs I have on the go, but I keep starting new projects. At least I’ve chosen smaller projects, like First Stitches. Visit those links for more information, if you’re into cross stitch type stuff.

Also, I’m published again! Six SENTENCES this time, instead of six words. In honour of Valentine’s Day: The Love Book from 6Sentences. Funny that I managed to get published in a ‘love’ themed book and especially considering the specific topic of my particular ‘six’. Check it out at Create Space.

2009: My Year in Review

January…

In January I officially became “Aurora Lee”.

Well, on the internet anyway.  I got the nickname “Aurora” last year from a fellow RPer – well, was given to my character by her character, but it sort of stuck with me.  Not to mention that it is a much nicer name than my previous online handle, though I still use that old handle on fan boards.  When I looked at using the name in a more official capacity, I found that “Aurora” is more popular than I thought so I added the Lee.  In January 2009 I officially adopted Aurora Lee as my ‘personal’ handle and purchased aurora-lee.ca! With the new domain name came a new host (www.netfirms.ca) and, well, a ‘host’ of new tools to play with.  WordPress, Joomla and more.  I integrated many of these tools on my new site to experiment and learn new things.  It’s still a work in progress and when I get some time I’ll be streamlining it. Catch up (NOT ketchup!) time… *thud*

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here.  It’s been a busy few months and I’m still trying to catch up!  Since my last post on October 18th, I’ve travelled to Dallas, planned and written a (almost complete) novel, spent a weekend in the city to see George Canyon, started volunteering, finished my first web design course, and now trying to catch up on everything I neglected during all that.

i can haz nap nao?

Before my last post, I started volunteering with Junior Achievement’s Company Program.  This 18 week program works with high school students to show them how to run a business from product brainstorming to company incorporation to finally disolving hte company.  My group – Valley Views – has created very nice 2010 calendars with photographic ciews of the valley.  The calendar sells for $10.  COntact me if you’re interest in purchase one :)   In the new year, they may shift to also making dog treats :)

Cross stitching has pretty much been put on hold until this weekend, too much other stuff has been going on!  I’m still working on Fairy Idyll, which I hope to finish before working on another new project or WIP.  My 365 Project had been put to the side during most of November as well, but is now back!  I started where I left off, so we’ll still get 365 photos, it will just take longer than a year to do. Writing, travelling, cross stitching…

So… what’s going on with me lately?  Too much!!

First, let’s talk about the fun stuff. I’ve posted a new progress photo for my Fairy Idyll cross stitch piece.  That will probably be last progress of any sort until December :(

I’m still taking part in my (free) Social Media and Open Education course – which this week was really interesting and dealt with Digital Storytelling, check out my last post for more information on that – and my Web design course (the homework for which I should be doing right now instead of writing this!).  I was suppose to do a Photography course through the Photographic Society of America, but the textbook I’ve only been able to find on Ebay.  I have just purchased it, though I’m still deciding if I just want to work through the book on my own, or take the course.  I’ll probably take a look at the book in November or December (more than likely December!) and figure it out.  (worried about the portrait unit – don’t really like taking pics of other people :P so I want to see what the exercises are before I commit)

On Tuesday I start volunteering weekly with Junior Achievement’s Company Program.  I was a volunteer advisor two years ago, but skipped last year, as I was too busy.  Somehow I decided that this year I was LESS busy?  Not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to that! lol Anyway, it’s a great program!  Hopefully we have a great year! A crappy week :( and cross stitch updates

Well, this week has royally sucked.  I’ve been tired all week… kinda feel like I’ve got too much going on – and it’s only going to get worse starting next week when I start two of my three courses.  Only one of these courses I’m actually paying for, so if I just can’t do it, at least I can concentrate on just that one!  Not to mention that on Tuesday we buried a wonderful co-work who died from cancer at age 25.  I didn’t know her very well, but many of the others I work with did and we used the office as a memorial room for staff and students to visit.

Then tonight I got home to discover that my web host account had been hacked and I got suspended for ’spamming’.  Sigh.  Got that up and running, but I’m freaking paranoid that it will happen again!

Good stuff…. I’m sure there’s some of that!

Let’s see… my 365 photography project is going well!  Though there were some close calls, I haven’t missed a day, though some may have been an hour or two past midnight.  So far it’s all photography or photoshop.  I suppose it will probably stay that way.  :)   I’m enjoying it so far.  If anyone has any requests let me know :D

I updated my Fairy Idyll cross stitch project page with a new progress pic.

I booked my flight to Dallas next month for Star Wars Fan Days III so I will definitely be going to that!! :D I also have a ticket to see Star Wars In Concert the night previous to the con.  I CAN’T WAIT!!!  If any one has suggestions for things to do in Dallas, please let me know!  I’ll have about 2 two days in total (spread over a Friday, Monday and Tuesday) for touristy things.

I think that’s about it for now :)

Monthly Update?

Yeah… I haven’t been posting much lately. It seems every time I think I’ve caught up… I haven’t. And I seem to just keep adding more stuff to the list! In September I’ll be starting a Web Design course and a Photography course. Yesterday I also started my own version of a Project 365. Project 365 is a daily photography challenge, but I may change it up a bit… make it more of a general creative challenge rather than just photography. I might have writing, or maybe a banner I created… whatever… as long as it’s creative and I did it in one day. You can find that at Aurora 365 (a link is also in the menu on the right).

You’ll noticed I changed the theme up here a little bit.  I got bored of the other one.  I wish this one had more of an ‘aurora borealis’ background.  Perhaps when I have some time (HAH!) I’ll make one. :)   I’ve been getting a few photos and a couple of pieces of cross stitch together for exhibition which will be happening in about a week and a half.  I was going to post somethign on the KISS concert I went to a few weeks ago, but it was so long ago now I don’t think anyone cares. lol Basically it was awesome and I was in the front row and it was totally worth it.

Lots of projects in the works… revamping my photo site (I’m going to change all the watermarks… even though I love them so… to something a bit more not in your face), and I’ve just purchased Adobe Lightroom so I’ll be having fun organizing my thousands of photos in there for a while!

Think that’s it for now.   Let me know what you think of my new project Aurora 365!

Locks of Love: “Sacrificing” a Prized Possession for the Cause

Locks of Love

20 years ago I started growing my hair out from the short-ish cut I’d always had.

15 years ago was the last time I ever sat in a hair stylists’ chair.

Through that time I could never imagine getting rid of my hair.  Even when it wasn’t the greatest, it was one of the things I liked about myself and didn’t want to lose that.  I even hated the trims twice a year I got from Mum because the hair got scraggly on the ends.  If someone had asked me if I’d ever cut it, I would have told them they (more…)

iPhone, Cross Stitch & Bones

Alright, so, first things first.  The important stuff… Dad arrived back in the province over the weekend and came home yesterday.  He’ll have a nurse for a bit and not sure when he’ll be able to go back to work, but he seems to be doing well. :)

Yesterday I finaly joined the iPhone cult. :)   Already got several apps from the app store and some custom ring tones.  But I’m so broke at a time when I really need money! lol  Fan Days is looking so yummy, too with flights under $600.  As for the iPhone, not sure that I’ll be using it as my iPod or anything as  I have a great mp3 player already.  However, I may make an exception when I go away so that I don’t have to bring that extra device with me and all it’s ’stuff’.  So far I’m really liking it!  It was iPhone or Blackberry and the iPhone really only won out because of the bigger screen and (more…)

First “Weekly” “Update” in a Few Weeks

Well, I had hoped that I would be able to post something at least once a week here, but lately it’s been a bit crazy around here.  AT least it seems like it has, even though I don’t seem to have accomplished a whole lot.  sigh.

No updates to the site to report…

I have been working on some stitching – got a bit done yesterday and maybe I’ll have another progress to post in a week or two.  I haven’t gotten any writing done lately – not even challenge drabbles!  Well, that’s sort of a lie.  I’ve been (more…)

New Photo Gallery and other news

Another weekend, another weekly round up!

Visitors to my Photography section will now notice a BIG change!  I really wasn’t happy with the photo gallery I originally chose when I moved over to this new host.  I’ve since found a theme I like much better.  Hopefully you all will too.  I welcome comments on it!

I haven’t escaped the cold computer lab of job #2 for long as I’ll be starting back at the job on Tuesday. :D   woo!  It’s just for a couple of days ever other week, but the money will be very helpful and I did quite enjoy the work.

Last update for this week… I added a little drabble “Love” that is still open to viewing by the general public for a few more days.  Just check out the creative corner section of my site to read it. :)   Comments welcome!

Hope everyone has a great Easter if you celebrate it. :)
