2009: My Year in Review
January…
In January I officially became “Aurora Lee”.
Well, on the internet anyway. I got the nickname “Aurora” last year from a fellow RPer – well, was given to my character by her character, but it sort of stuck with me. Not to mention that it is a much nicer name than my previous online handle, though I still use that old handle on fan boards. When I looked at using the name in a more official capacity, I found that “Aurora” is more popular than I thought so I added the Lee. In January 2009 I officially adopted Aurora Lee as my ‘personal’ handle and purchased aurora-lee.ca! With the new domain name came a new host (www.netfirms.ca) and, well, a ‘host’ of new tools to play with. WordPress, Joomla and more. I integrated many of these tools on my new site to experiment and learn new things. It’s still a work in progress and when I get some time I’ll be streamlining it. (more…)
Catch up (NOT ketchup!) time… *thud*
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. It’s been a busy few months and I’m still trying to catch up! Since my last post on October 18th, I’ve travelled to Dallas, planned and written a (almost complete) novel, spent a weekend in the city to see George Canyon, started volunteering, finished my first web design course, and now trying to catch up on everything I neglected during all that.
Before my last post, I started volunteering with Junior Achievement’s Company Program. This 18 week program works with high school students to show them how to run a business from product brainstorming to company incorporation to finally disolving hte company. My group – Valley Views – has created very nice 2010 calendars with photographic ciews of the valley. The calendar sells for $10. COntact me if you’re interest in purchase one
In the new year, they may shift to also making dog treats
Cross stitching has pretty much been put on hold until this weekend, too much other stuff has been going on! I’m still working on Fairy Idyll, which I hope to finish before working on another new project or WIP. My 365 Project had been put to the side during most of November as well, but is now back! I started where I left off, so we’ll still get 365 photos, it will just take longer than a year to do. (more…)
“It’s Not an Option to NOT Do It” – Jordan Belfi at Breakout Before Moonlight
Jordan, as always, was drool worthy in his scruff and leather jacket. In fact, we told him that several times through the weekend. We told him (in better words of course lol) how surprised we’d been in Chicago and that after seeing him stride into the Q&A that day everyone stopped saying “too bad Alex didn’t agree to come”. We were QUITE happy to have Jordan in his place!
Jordan first talked about his upcoming projects. He’ll have a few episodes on Entourage and shot a film earlier this year called “Bedrooms”. Next we discussed CSI. He enjoyed working on the episode but was a bit… cagey regarding his thoughts on David Caruso. “David Caruso is an interesting… he ah… likes a lot of takes and he’s a handful.”
Jordan said his best audition was for a (more…)
“Mine Were Bigger” – Jason Dohring at Breakout Before Moonlight
Jason is always great at Cons. I couldn’t imagine one without him, even if he’s not the reason I go to them. Unlike Chicago, his wife Lauren was in attendance this weekend – unbeknownst for a few who ended their comments at the end of the Q&A with “don’t tell your wife”.
The first question he was asked was regarding his upcoming projects. AT the moment he has nothing coming up, although Body Politic, he said, was still being shopped around to a network or two.
Jason was asked about his best and worst auditions and his answers seemed easy. He thought his best audition was for Veronica Mars and his worst was “any one I didn’t get”. He also said “If I do the best I can do, I don’t care if I don’t get [the role]. You’ll never get someone who can do that, so go (more…)
“I’m More Than Veronica Mars” – Francis Capra at Breakout Before Moonlight
Francis was not what I expected. Actually I’m not sure what I expected. Maybe I had no expectations. The point is I was pleasantly surprised. He’s a super nice guy, very down to earth; a huge World of Warcraft fan with a tough past.
Although he would eventually like to be behind the camera, he still feels as if there’s more he can do in front of it. He wants to do something more than Weevil. If ever called to play Weevil again or a similar character, he would like to show the other sides and parts of that character that we haven’t seen yet. He wants to prove that he can do more than we’ve seen.
He did audition for “Sons of Anarchy”. The role was for the leader of a Hispanic biker gang. It’s my observation that he wasn’t that interested anyway. He said that LA biker gangs are unrealistic as the bikes are stolen before you can even form a gang! He told us that we’d never see gangs in a realistic way on TV unless he was behind the camera, although he does respect anyone who will talk about it because he ‘lived that life’. He stated later in the weekend that he had been in a gang.
He did a silent impression of Jason that was (more…)
“That’s the Way the Game is Played” – Breakout Before Moonlight
Friday
After registering and getting our booklets and (partial) schedules we got in line to buy our photo spots and I bought a photo with Jason and Jordan both. I wasn’t going to as they were pretty expensive and I already had pics with each of them from the Gala in Chicago, but I hoped for a better pic of ME! Lol After that, Buzzwire, MyImmortal and I headed to the mall. I hadn’t planned on buying anything but found the Henley store. Ugh. MyImmortal and I ended up buying the same outfit!
We got back just in time for the opening ceremonies. Each guest was introduced (Francis and Jason came out pretending to be each other!) and briefly said something, then we were ushered into the meet and greet. (See my previous post for schedule and meet and greet annoyances) It lasted about three and a half hours and we had about five minutes with each guest. We were starved and about half way through, we ordered in a pizza! They also had a memory book for Andy Hallett which was really nice.
Here’s a quick run down of what our table discussed briefly with each guest: (more…)
Breakout Before Moonlight
Okay, so here are my impressions of the Convention at Breakout Before Moonlight in general. Many of you may disagree and that’s fine. These are just ‘my’ thoughts. Also I noticed that most of the people who seemed to have a problem with it were Americans, the brits and Europeans seemed to be fine. That’s not to say ALL of the Americans disliked it, and ALL the Europeans liked it, just a general observation. I’m thinking perhaps we “Americans” are simply accustomed to a higher level of service maybe? (more…)
Locks of Love: “Sacrificing” a Prized Possession for the Cause
20 years ago I started growing my hair out from the short-ish cut I’d always had.
15 years ago was the last time I ever sat in a hair stylists’ chair.
Through that time I could never imagine getting rid of my hair. Even when it wasn’t the greatest, it was one of the things I liked about myself and didn’t want to lose that. I even hated the trims twice a year I got from Mum because the hair got scraggly on the ends. If someone had asked me if I’d ever cut it, I would have told them they (more…)
CF-18 Air Show Photos
Hey all! I’ll edit this post or make a new one later with some info on my awesome week! But I just quickly wanted to post some pics for someone of the Centennial CF-18 performance at the Air Show we had here yesterday! The snowbirds also performed and I’ll post some pics of them later as well. (more…)
