ECDSC Kingstec’s Regular hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.  We will be open for most of the summer, with a few exceptions.  Below, you will see our schedule for the summer.

What happens if certain developmental stages such as crawling, or achieving hand dominance are not met?

This presentation will address the relationship between developmental milestones and the skills needed for learning reading, writing and math. You will learn about some of the “red flags” that could be cause for concern, and hear about strategies that help. This talk is for teachers, parents, early childhood teachers, education students, support workers, educational assistants and anyone who is interested in learning.

Caring at Work Awards were presented to Valley ECE’s last night, May 4th, at our Pre-Conference session.  Participants enjoyed the networking opportunity, the great food, and an excellent workshop—Happiness is a Good Story.  Cindy Campbell showed us how to tell our stories through visualization techniques and oral narrative exploration. We discovered treasured stories in everyday life. A great, feel good workshop!

Hey Everyone!  It’s just 3 more sleeps until our Spring Conference! Monica and I are both really excited to share the weekend with you all.  (I won’t lie though… part of that excitement is at the thought of getting my office cleared out of all these boxes!)

For almost three years now Jenny Mitson has had a vision to open her own daycare in the Windsor area, recently Jenny found out that Happy Whale was up for sale and decided that this was the daycare she had been waiting for to open as Little Pumpkins.  For the last couple of years, Jenny has worked with Pebbles and JJ getting their daycare from a vision to a reality.  Jenny Mitson, is an emergency nurse at the IWK, Pebbles, the Childcare Director, has worked in daycares for many years, JJ Tyler is the Operations and Marketing Director, who oversees the daily operations and works on marketing.

Although Jenny wanted to have  Little Pumpkins in Windsor the chance to open in Kentville is perfect as a first location.  Little pumpkins is unique in a way that will help the daycare be top of it’s game at all times.  JJ Tyler, will take on the administration role and ensure that everything is being done according to the regulations and overseeing marketing .  Pebbles gets to work with the children to ensure that the Reggio approach that is used at Little Pumpkins is being followed and that the children are having fun and have all that they need to grow and learn in a fun environment.

To celebrate their opening, Little Pumpkins will host an Open Day on April 21^st from 11-2pm, all are welcome, registrations will be taken on the day for our pre school classes.

June 21st is National Aboriginal Day!

Join us that evening to learn about Mi’kmaq culture including the importance of children, traditions and storytelling in the culture; how educators can include this into their programing; and more.

Please keep our workshop guidelines in mind.

About Mindy: 

Mindy is the Daycare Director of Annapolis Valley 1^st Nation Band. Her role there is to educate the children/staff in Mi’kmaq Culture and language.

In 2003 Mindy was catapulted into the public eye when she was awarded second prize in Canada’s National University Entrepreneurship Competition. At that time she was a full time Business Administration and Marketing student at the N.S. Community College and was raising five children with her husband Jim. As a result her face appeared in print ads, television ads and on the Internet as Ambassador for the NSCC. The entrepreneurship award was based on her business wherein she was creating sterling silver jewellery that embodies the old written language of the Mi’kmaq People. She studied the art of silver smithing with Bob Hawke, an accomplished jeweler from Kings County.

Mindy has a strong belief in helping, guiding, supporting, encouraging and educating others in the knowledge of Aboriginal Awareness. In the past she has regularly delivered lively and animated presentations to schools and children’s clubs such as Scouts and Guides of Canada

May seems so far away, but when I look at my to-do list to prepare for our Spring Conference, I sometimes think it’s a bit too close!

On May 4th & 5th, the ECDSC Kingstec will be hosting our third annual Spring Conference. We have a great day of learning and activity on Saturday with a total of 8 sessions to close from:

• Toddler Transition
• Children’s Faces Looking Up! (Spaces Limited)

Hand with Care is now full, but please let us know if you would like to be put on the waiting list.  If a space opens up, we will try to accomodate those that have been waitlisted.  it will also help us determine if we should offer the workshop again in the future.

You can also join us Friday night for our Conference kick-off featuring Cindy Campbell and a session called “Happiness is a Good Story”.  We will be serving supper and presenting the Caring at Work Awards.  Know someone who should be recognized at the event?  There are more details on our blog.

You are welcome to attend either day, or both.  The choice is yours!
