Participants are asked to dress comfortably and for the weather. Part of the session will take place outdoors.
Description: Many early learning teachers are embracing the movement to increase the opportunities for children to have intriguing outdoor play experiences. At the same time, early learning teachers are exploring how nature pedagogy may differ from other practices. Participants at this interactive workshop will explore what is meant by environments that provide children with a sense of place and a chance to experience nature pedagogy. Core concepts of outdoor play and nature pedagogy and early learning program philosophies and practice will be explored.

About the Facilitator: Dr. Beverlie Dietze is the Director of Learning and Applied Research at Okanagan College in British Columbia. Beverlie has been researching a variety of topics related to outdoor play for several years, some of which is positioned in Nova Scotia. She is the author of several early childhood education textbooks as well as peer-reviewed articles. She is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, St. Francis Xavier University and the University of Toronto.
