I love art and photography – I think anyone who knows me knows that – but I’m not really one for buying coffee table books. I suppose that’s partly because I don’t have people over and partly because I don’t actually spent any time in my living room (where the coffee table is) except to water plans and partly because I don’t really see the point of them.
The first one I ever bought was The Art of Ralph McQuarrie, That I got at Star Wars Celebration V. It’s a beautiful book with lots of information in addition to the art that I haven’t actually read through yet.
Today I received my second: Scott Caan Photographs Vol. 1. I hope there will one day, soon, be a “Vol. 2″! (And, by the way, yes that Scott Caan). A friend came across his photography site and sent me the link, seeing as I like photography, but I never intended on buying his book.
I must have been in a ‘mood’ or something over the weekend because it came into my head that I had to have this book and went ahead and ordered it without a second thought.
I’m glad I did. It’s definitely a different style that I would normally collect or display or shoot, but in some ways it makes perfect sense. Scott has a dark, gritty, vintage, ‘real’ style. Some of his photos remind me of what I try to accomplish when I photograph run down buildings and such and flipping through the book inspired me to try a few different things next time I go out with my camera.
I’ve also backed a several photography projects on Kickstarter, including a few books. I look forward to looking through those in the future as well.
I’m not really that great of a ‘reviewer’, especially with art and photography, but I know what I like and I hope I got that across here.

i’m looking to purchase the book also and was wondering if there was any difference between the black cover and white cover books. thanks in advance!
Hi Joddi!
The book I received (from Amazon.ca) was a black hard (Cloth) cover book with a thin white slip case. I thought there were two different covers as well, until I received it, but as far as I know this is the only place the white/black comes in.
Enjoy!
