Moving Day

Moving Day

Moving IN day. Sorta. This truck had some of our things that had been in storage during our last posting. Our real ‘moving in’ day was when the two sea containers arrived. On September 11th… 2001.

Time Capsule – July 10

Calgary Olympic Park
One summer when I was in Pathfinders (or maybe it was Venturer Scouts, I was in both and both groups had pretty much the same people in it and my Pathfinder leader and Scout leader were married so… yeah, it all sorta blends together).  Anyway, when I was in some sort of organized international group for teenagers, said group took a trip that I partook in.  We went to the Rockies, Montana and a few other places.  At some point we stopped for a quick Kodak moment at the Olympic Park in Calgary.

While I’d been to England two or three times before this, and there was that trip to Ontario for Christmas one time, this was my first ‘real’ travelling vacation.  That is: the one I really remember, really took photos of, and that I really remember sparking my love of travelling.

Time Capsule – July 5

Rocky Train

This was the one photo that I had planned before leaving on my Cross Canada train trip. I took shots of “the train going around a corner” whenever possible and this is one of the best of the lot. I think the scenery helps!

Weekend Getaways – 22/365

Posted in Favourite Things on January 22nd, 2011 by Aurora

Today I’m in the city spending a night away from home and relaxing.  I’m here for PodCamp Halifax 2011 but the weekend has been a long time coming.  Between the peaceful hours-long bus ride, the quiet hotel room and a bit of shopping it’s a nice break from home!

Naps on the Bus – 13/365

Posted in Favourite Things on January 13th, 2011 by Aurora

BusThere’s nothing I look forward to more when my work day is dragging than my bus ride home.  It’s a two hour trip home with one change.  When I’m tired or not feeling well, I find my favourite seat, pull my hood up, lean against the ‘wall’ (my fave seats are not next to windows) and go to sleep.  Somehow, I have pretty much never missed my stop.  (In seven years I have twice woken up as we pulled up to the stop but didn’t miss it, and once woken up as we passed it and got off at the next one, which was also kinda my stop – my destination was in the middle).

I definitely was looking forward to this today, although I forced myself to read my book for a bit before succumbing to sleep.

Day 314 and 315

Day 314

While sitting in my nice, new writing nook, writing in my journal, I looked out the window and saw this birds nest in the pine tree :)

Day 315

Time to finally get to that Dallas trip (that I went on in October)

Day 150 & 151

Posted in Photography on January 26th, 2010 by Aurora

Day 148 & 149 was posted to posterus while I was in Halifax.

Day 150

I spent yesterday on Day 1 of travelling around with my boss to visit centres in our area promoting Literacy Day.  I didn’t post this photo last night because I wasn’t feeling well and slept most of the night.

Day 151

The books I bought on Saturday.

The Tower of London, W. H. Ainsworth, c. 1940

New Arabian Nights, R. L. Stevenson, c. 1940

Domesday Book, Edgar Lee Masters, c. 1920 (not very interesting to look at, but looked like an interesting read when I looked through it)

The Swiss Family Robinson, Johann Wyss, c. 1954 (not in great condition, but I liked the cover :) )
