Time Capsule – September 29

One of the members of the photo club I’m a part of has a friend with a couple of barns full of tools, antiques and other curiosities.  Last year, we took an outing to the barns.

Trapped

Trapped

This old boat was part of the eclectic collection.  The barn was lit only with natural light through the windows and doors (and it was a gloomy, rainy day) and I shot without a tripod.  So a lot of the shots weren’t very sharp.  On the other hand, with a touch of fun in Lightroom, the photos looks kinda cool (in my opinion, anyway).

Hampton
Hampton, on the Bay of Fundy, was one of the first places we went when we moved to Nova Scotia, aside from home/work/shops.

Brier Island

Back when my family still took road trips, we took the drive down to Brier Island.  It’s a wonderfully scenic island and drive (check out Balancing Rock on your way!) and we even saw some seals out in the ocean!  This is the lighthouse on the island.

Viking Ships

Viking Ships

Well, maybe not really Viking ships, but these boats were on the docks at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark.  It was a really interesting museum, from what I can remember.  This trip was sort of a whirr* and I don’t really remember a lot of it more than what I photographed.

*Interesting coincidence – I went to dictionary.com to see if I spelled that right (FYI, the site says ‘whir’ OR ‘whirr’) and it says that the origins of the word are probably Scandinavian.  It was interesting to me, anyway!

Annapolis Royal Lighthouse

This photo was taken with a very cheap, old point and shoot digital camera. I mean, it didn’t even use a memory card. Internal storage only. Even still, this is still one of my favourite photos.

We took a drive along Nova Scotia’s Highway 8 and ended up back in Annapolis Royal around dinner time. Shot a couple of photos while we headed to the End of the Line Pub for supper.

Sailing

Someone recommended we visited The Ovens, near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.  The scenery was amazing and we saw several sailing boats (and some crazy canoers!) while we were there.  If you can handle a moderately difficult hike, I recommend this spot if you’re in the area.

Stuff on a Ship
The Tall Ships festival is a popular event in Halifax (and other cities around the world) every summer. We attended one year and I got several fun photos of the ships and waterfront even though (or maybe because?) it was quite foggy that day.

The Ferry
On our 2008 cross Canada trip, we spent several days in Vancouver. While there, we took a day trip, via the ferry, to Vancouver Island (side story: when I was a kid I thought the teacher was stupid when she tried to convince me Vancouver was NOT on Vancouver Island!). My mum and I met up with an old elementary school classmate and HER mom. They drove us to Victoria and we spent the day walking around very nice city. This was our ferry arriving back at Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver.
