Meanwhile, back in England…

Ladder Nap

While we were driving to Brighton, my uncle told me about the Ridgeway Walk.  The history behind that totally intrigued me, and I had planned a day of hiking while staying with the family, so I set out for a day long hike along part of the walk a couple of days later.  I thought ‘wouldn’t it be cool to try out geo-caching while I’m at it’?  This ladder was laying on the ground at my first ‘stop’.  I have no idea if the cache was in there or not; I never found it.  After realizing how crappy I was at this new activity, how far I had planned to hike, and how much time I’d wasted in this one place, I decided that a 13km hike was not the time to practice a new game.

I haven’t actually tried geocaching again since.  I really should get on that.

Weiskirche

In the summer of 2000, I visited Bavaria twice.  The first time (documented here) was a weekend tour that we joined.  The second time we spent a good two weeks or so there on a family vacation.  I have no doubt photos from that longer vacation will appear in the time capsule next month!

This is the church in Wies.  The outside may not look like much but the inside is beautiful! I didn’t post a photo of the inside as I didn’t actually take any photos inside.  Our tour guide did though and I have those photos on a disk.  They had a new-fangled device called a “digital camera”.  Strange technology.  I’m sure it didn’t go anywhere…

I wrote a blog post about it a while ago.

Telephone Box

While I was visiting my family in England, my uncle had a business meeting in Brighton.  This was a city I’d never been to before, so I of course took the opportunity to go along with him.  While he was in his meeting I wandered around the city and pier, which is very much like the pier at Santa Monica.

Little White House

Stop number three on my 2009 England trip was a relaxing few days visiting family.  One day, we went to stroll around Ashridge Common.  I’ve been here several times in the past but it’s always a great place to relax or hike.  It’s also a Harry Potter filming location, if you’re into that kind of thing!  This is part of the little visitor’s centre/cafe/gift shop near the Bridgewater Monument.

Stormy Afternoon

For my mum’s birthday last year, we went out for dinner and a drive and ended up here: Lake George.  A pretty little spot although it was windy that afternoon and we didn’t stay long.  Wicked cool clouds, though!  I photoshopped this one for even more dramatic effect.

Jason Dohring and Francis Capra

While in England in 2009 I attended this Veronica Mars panel featuring Jason Dohring (Logan) and Francis Capra (Weevil). Given the new movie hype, I thought this was worth posting.

The Hockey Game

I spent a weekend in Toronto (not my first, nor would it be my last) for my cousin’s wedding.  It was a great weekend and a beautiful wedding.  I was there with my dad and one night, walking home from the train, we passed this sculpture.  It’s not a great photo because I only had my little point and shoot, but I think the art is pretty neat!

The Writing Shed
Though he was born in Ireland, playwright George Bernard Shaw spent his final years at Shaw’s Corner, his estate in Hertfordshire, England.  I visited the site in 1997 with my mum and grandparents.  His little ‘writing shed’ fascinated me and it’s about the only thing I remember about the estate (even when I look at the photos!).  It looked like such an inspiring place to write!

I want a writing shack…

You Talkin' to Me?

In the summer of 2009, I travelled to England to tour around, attend a convention and visit family.  My first stop was York, a place I’ve always wanted to go but somehow never got to (the downside of travelling with others).  After going all the way there, I seemed to have been surrounded by my fellow Canadians… Geese that is!  I’m not quite sure why, out of the hundreds of photos I took while I was there, I chose this one to post but… this is what you get!

You can read more about my time in York on my blog (forgive the missing photo links.  I need to rebuild by photo library!)

The Red Bridge
Not even half a month into this project and I’m pretty sure this will be the oldest photo in the series.  This far back, I can’t be 100% certain the date is exactly correct, but it’s close I think.  I didn’t start getting smart about my photo labeling until later.

This one of two “Red Bridges” in Cold Lake.  This one I travelled everyday to get to school when I was in Junior High, (note that one must ‘walk uphill both ways to get to school’ and back!) and other times when I was just wandering around.  The bridges have since been replaced with regular old wooden bridges which are no fun at all and definitely not red!

A classmate is in the picture.  I had a camera with me all the time even back in these days, though I mostly just took photos of friends and classmates.
